How to Create Your Own Moon & Arrow Lodge

Here’s the truth. I used to never slow down. I was a yoga teacher who never slowed down. Sometimes I would in the occasional class that had a nice long savasana and when that happened I definitely felt amazing but it didn’t last. I would worry and fret and feel anxious.

5 years ago when I needed to get out of a funk after moving, I started small. I took little bits of time to read inspirational books, do breathing techniques, meditate for 5 minutes, and so on. When I started to incorporate these bits of time into my day, my life started to flow with more ease and I started to enjoy my life more.

My desire to share this work with busy people is how the Moon & Arrow Lodge was born. I want you to create a space and time so you can slow down and find that space inside you where the stresses of the world melt away and you can get back to your life feeling lighter and happier.

Here are my tips to get you started…

Some of the things you might like to bring into your own space are:

  • candles
  • matches
  • sage
  • palo santo
  • crystals
  • essential oils
  • singing bowl
  • music
  • journal
  • pen
  • inspirational books
  • oracle cards (click here for your mini moon oracle deck!)

Watch until the end to find out my fave tips for slowing down and moving forward feeling clearer, lighter, and happier!

Want to learn how to use all of these tools and deepen your connection to yourself? Consider joining my monthly membership, The Dreamcatcher Circle, that is a nurturing community where busy individuals can slow down, tune into their inner wisdom, discover just how powerful they are, and begin to manifest their dreams.

Remind yourself that you are amazing!

You are amazing!

Your smile, your heart, your drive.

It can be easy to get stuck in a loop of negative thoughts.

Those thoughts aren’t you.

You are light.

You are energy.

You are a force for positivity in the world.

Don’t let this past mistakes get you down.

They make you relatable, wise, strong, and unique.

Your past is your secret weapon.

Allow it to fuel you, not hinder you.

The present moment is your point of power.

Where do you want to go from here?

Ask for guidance!!!

Ask out loud:

“What is the next step I should take?”

Then stay open to guidance. (It may be in the form of a hunch, an email, an idea, a billboard, etc.)

Find yourself lost in negative thoughts again?

Recognize them and tell them to shut the hell up so you can listen to your inner guidance.

Laugh. Smile. Have fun.

Find out what helps the negative self-talk get quiet and then repeat often.

Things like relaxation or bike riding or family movie time.

Remind yourself that negative chatter is really just your ego resisting change.

Your dreams are possible.

You have everything you need right now.

Now go do something that future version of yourself that you daydream about would do.

You have the support of the universe.

xo, Kerry

Full Moon, Super Moon, Blue Moon, Total Lunar Eclipse Ritual

Wow! A rare event is happening this month and I look forward to sharing it with you!
On January 31st there will be a Full Moon. Since it is the second full moon of the month that makes it a Blue Moon. It will also be closer to the earth than usual so it will appear brighter and bigger making it a Super Moon.
Then in the morning, the moon will pass through the earth’s shadow causing a Lunar Eclipse. This happening on a full moon is rare.
Join me the night before on Tuesday the 30th for a bit of yoga, gratitude, and a guided meditation to help you relax, release stress and tension so you can enjoy the moment and manifest your new moon intention or new year’s goals.
This will be at 7pm MST-Arizona. (6pm PST – 7pm MST – 8pm CST – 9pm EST).

The Secret to Less Fatigue & a Calm Mind

Ahh…doesn’t less fatigue and a calm mind sound like heaven?

You probably already have some tips and tricks that you like to use and I am adding one more to your toolbox. Or possibly just a longer version.

Drumroll, please….

“The stresses of modern civilization are a strain on the nerves for which Savasana is the best antidote.” – B.K.S. Iyengar

For those of you that are not yogis, this is the relaxation practice traditionally done a the end of a yoga class.

It is also great to do at the end of the day, after a run or gym class, or simply when you are feeling stressed.

I created a Savasana video so you can experience the full 9 to 10 minutes of relaxation anytime.

The first one is a bit of an introduction about what I am writing here and the second one is the full relaxation. So go get your blankets!

Remember, it is harder to calm the mind than it is to relax the body so this is considered one of the most challenging poses in yoga.

The reason it is worth doing is that “this conscious relaxation invigorates and refreshes both the body and the mind.”

I have been teaching yoga for about 14 years and have seen the length of time spent in savasana decline over the years.

In the famous yoga text by B.K.S. Iyengar, Light on Yoga, it is suggested to do 10 to 15 minutes after asana (physical poses) and 5 to 10 minutes after pranayama (breathing exercises).

Intrigued? Go relax your way into the weekend!

Kerry Burki – an Introduction

I feel like it is time for a proper introduction. My name is Kerry Burki. I live in Scottsdale, AZ. I have my degree in Religious Studies & have been practicing yoga, studying the metaphysical arts & spirituality since the late 90’s.

I lived in Chicago for many years where I became a yoga teacher & worked for creative arts companies while getting married (Matt, my soulmate!), having kids (2 sweet boys 6 & 9!), & making a home.

Life was good.

It wasn’t until I moved back to Arizona 5 years ago that things changed. I couldn’t find full-time work as a yoga teacher & I had a close family member in & out of hospitals.

I stopped doing everything I learned. At the end of the day, I just wanted to watch tv & zone out.

I felt lost.

I started changing how I talked to myself. I realized I was saying a lot of mean & untrue things to myself all day long. I started working with affirmations & things went from there.

I started just doing a couple of yoga poses & focusing more on breathing, meditation, affirmations, visualizing, & following the phases of the moon.

By infusing small bits into my day my life started to flow in ways it never had before.

Life became more magical.

I became a Life Coach, launched a magazine, & started Full Moon Yoga classes. In 2017, I did something that made me happy every day for the 40 days before my 40th birthday. I learned to skateboard. I started teaching Full Moon paddleboard classes.

That led me to complete 2 programs as a Metaphysical Adept & a Divine Resonance Practitioner. During my training, I created The Moon & Arrow Lodge.

It’s a nurturing & teaching space. I teach the tools that have worked for me.

More importantly, I want you to learn to love yourself and to go after the things in life that make your heart swell like I did.

I’ll be sharing more & I look forward to getting to know you more too.

How to gift yourself grace & receive guidance

It became obvious last week that I had taken on too much this holiday season. I felt overwhelmed and behind.

Can you relate?

Yes? Then you are not alone.

I thought my overwhelm was because I said yes to far too many things and tried to overdeliver on all of them. What I realized is that it was because I had said no to taking care of myself.

I was waking up late and not making time for my usual breathwork, meditation, prayer, and visualization throughout the day. I found myself rushing and then collapsing at the end of the day.

Sound familiar?

Don’t worry!

There is still time to give yourself the gift of grace and receive guidance this holiday season.

I talked about doing this in our New Moon Circle in our new Facebook Group on Monday.

Here are a few tips for giving yourself and others grace:

Feeling all worked up and overwhelmed?

  • Take a moment and breathe. Inhale through your nose and exhale out of your mouth. Do this at least 3 times. Every time you relax a bit, your life will flow more effortless and ease.

(My older son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes over the summer and honestly, it feels like we have been going a mile a minute ever since with learning and insulin injections. Pausing to breathe consciously has been a helpful way for me to cope and thrive. That is why your see BREATHE posts through my Instagram feed.)

Finding that the behavior of others is putting you in a bad mood?

  • Remember that everyone is doing the best they can with the knowledge they have. That doesn’t mean their behavior is not annoying or possibly hurtful but try to remember that it is a reflection on them and their life experience and has nothing to do with you. (This might take time but can certainly help during this time of year!!!

Now let’s talk a bit about receiving over the holidays. I want you to remember that you are being guided. Life can be magical when you open up to receiving this guidance.

Here are a few tips for receiving guidance:

Looking for a parking spot or the perfect gift?

  • Ask your “runners” to go find it for you and then trust that they will. (Runners are guides that love to help you find things. You can view them as people, angels, guides, or simply energy.)

Worrying about things going wrong or not being perfect?

  • Ask God/Universe/Spirit to take your worries away. Literally, ask that in your head or out loud. Then ask what you should do next. You might hear the words “relax” or you might get an actual sign about what to do.

I have done all of these to help me get back to taking care of myself and enjoying this season to the fullest. They work!

Remember that you are a light in this world. Take care of yourself.

Happy Holidays!

New Moon Circle on Monday in the New Facebook Group!

When I created the Manifesting with the Moon workbook I knew I wanted to create a space where beautiful souls would come together to focus on creating a more intentional life.

People have asked about doing virtual New Moon and Full Moon events so I created a new Facebook group for The Moon & Arrow Lodge.

Hooray! This will be a sacred space to share, dream, slow down, follow the moon, and manifest our desires.

Click here to join the group!

There is also a new Facebook page that I would love it if you could go and “like” and follow if you wish.

To kick it off, I am hosting a New Moon Circle in the group live on Monday, December 18th at 4pm MST – (3pm PST – 5pm CST – 6pm EST).

The New Moon is a time for setting an intention for the upcoming moon cycle as well as the next 6 months. That makes this particular new moon so exciting because it is right before the holidays and the new year.

This event will be live but you are welcome to watch and participate later in the day or even within a few day after the event.

Thriving During the Holidays with the Sun & Moon!

Pausing to do breathing exercises has truly changed my life for the better. I am excited to share two different techniques that will help you thrive during the holiday season and beyond!

Are you feeling anxious, angry, frustrated, or something similar?

Try Left Nostril Breathing.

  • Sit tall
  • Close your right nostril with the first two fingers of your right hand
  • Inhale slowly and deeply through the left nostril
  • Exhale slowly through your left nostril
  • This is one cycle.
  • Repeat 8 to 10 times or for 1 to 3 minutes.
  • Allow your eyes to close.
  • Pause after and take some deep breaths through both nostrils.
  • Notice how you feel.

The left nostril is connected to the Moon and your Ida Nadi. Your lunar (ida) nadi (channel) is in your subtle energy body. It controls all mental processes and the more feminine aspects of your personality. It is cooling and cleansing.

Benefits include:

  • reduces stress
  • cools the body
  • helps lower blood pressure
  • calms the mind and nervous system

Tips: Not recommended for people with low blood pressure. If you have any medical conditions, please consult with your doctor first.

Feeling tired, unmotivated, depressed, sluggish, or something similar?

Try Right Nostril Breathing.

  • Sit tall
  • Close your left nostril with the first two fingers of your left hand
  • Inhale slowly and deeply through the right nostril
  • Exhale slowly through your right nostril
  • This is one cycle.
  • Repeat 8 to 10 times or for 1 to 3 minutes.
  • Allow your eyes to close.
  • Pause after and take some deep breaths through both nostrils.
  • Notice how you feel.

The right nostril is connected to the Sun and your Pingala Nadi. Your solar (pingala) nadi (channel) is in your subtle energy body. It increases vitality and controls the more masculine aspects of your personality. It is warming and nurturing.

Benefits include:

  • helps alleviate sluggishness and depression
  • increases physical energy
  • warms the body
  • increased digestive fire
  • effective for stress management

Tips: Best done on an empty stomach. Not recommended for people with high blood pressure. If you have any medical conditions, please consult with your doctor first.

Feel free to let me know how these breaths work for you. In the new year, I will share who to balance both of these by doing Alternate Nostril Breathing.

Happy Holidays!

New Moon In Scorpio – Ritual, Breath, & Prayer

Tomorrow is a New Moon in Scorpio.

The energy around this is can be shadowy and mysterious.

What has been going on under the surface for you lately?

Does something need to bubble up or does it feel appropriate to have a bit of mystery.

Tonight, tomorrow, or Sunday might be a nice time to set a time aside to explore the questions above.

Before you explore the questions above possibly tune in first with your breath.

Try the Ida Nadi Breath aka Lunar Breath.

Simply close your right nostril with the first two fingers of your right hand and inhale and exhale through the left nostril, only for 8 to 10 breaths. Allow your eyes to close. Pause after and take some deep breaths through both nostrils. Notice how you feel.

Ida is regarded as the lunar nadi (channel) in your subtle energy body. It controls all mental processes and the more feminine aspects of your personality. (I am sharing a short video of this breath on Instagram Stories – it will be available for 24 hours.)

With the holidays coming up it might be nice to end your New Moon ritual with a prayer.

Ask God/Universe/Spirit to help you view yourself and others with a tremendous amount of grace.

Try to have grace in relation to the shadow self and mysterious parts of both yourself and others during this time.

You can also get the new Manifest with the Moon workbook I just released along with this new website for The Moon & Arrow Lodge to help you set an intention for this moon cycle.
